Unraveling captures the ideas, experiences, and stories held within a knitted sweater and its maker. The yarn comes with its own history and stories. And as I knit and wear a sweater with it, my experiences are woven into the fabric, our stories becoming intertwined
As I began to take apart the sweater to make my scarf, I saw the connection between changes occurring in my personal life and the process of unraveling my sweater. Change is often frightening. It makes us uncomfortable, and it sometimes feels as if we, too, are coming apart. This concept of change, unraveling, and reweaving a personal narrative led me to the second group of paintings in this series, People.
My Chair series represents the story of the yarn itself and its transition from raw materials into yarn and then into a sweater; and eventually, through its unraveling, into another knitted creation – a scarf.
